charity quilt

One of the guilds that I'm in gives quilts to the Hospice House for people who go through chemo have something to keep them warm.  So this years challenge is to make one using a color of a cancer ribbon.  Mine is teal for ovarian cancer.  I was trying to figure out how to place the fabric strips onto the teal.

This is what I came up with.  And you can see the borders there.  Very plain, but I'm doing a lot of hand quilting.

Here's what I have got going so far.

and this is a close up of the quilting.  I love to hand quilt.  And over half the quilt had to use the color of the ribbon.  So this way it's more than half.  I seem to get sized wrong lately and I don't follow rules....I use them as a jumping off point, like a diving board.  Once I'm "in the water" I go all over the place.

My Mom died from ovarian cancer.  Crappy stuff.  Hope no one ever, ever has to go through that.  Or any other cancer for that fact.  So this is passing something warm to another person to help them out.

Practice random acts of kindness!
It will do your heart good!

PS.  My shingles are healing.  It is a virus and you just don't get over that in a couple of days.  I have been worn out and tired.  Trying to get more rest and eat better.

Oh!  And this one is in the frame.  Just been plugging away at this when I feel good.

Been a fuzzy couple of weeks...

We did get the maple tree put in a couple of days ago.  Terry wanted pictures so here are a couple of the tree and plants that are blooming.

I have been working on this and a few other things.  I have had shingles.  Awful, yucky things.  The spots are drying up but it still hurts under the skin.  Like there are bees under the skin.  Terrible.  So I'm not moving too fast and sleeping a lot.  The pain medicine is gone, but the pain isn't.  I can handle it with over the counter stuff.  I hope that I got the to dr in time for the antibiotic to kill the nasties.  But there are a couple of places that feel like the first bit that happened.  Feels like a puffy pulled muscle that is sore.  Then the spots came out.  Well the spots have dried up and look terrible, but they don't hurt anymore.  When I'm in the car to get to the store, every bump in the road really hurts.

This is a new experience for me.  So many people ask things like "can you get them again?''  Will the shot help you now?"  How long before it goes away?"  just because I got them doesn't make me an expert on this.  I really feel for people who get these.  You just aren't comfortable.

So I have been sewing on the big circles on to this one.  12 circles in all.  then I started a challenge, and don't know if it fits the criteria.  What can I say?  I also have one in the frame that has been very relaxing to work on.  It's a coverlet that you might have gotten to use in a dorm room.  Kind of a boat/sub/ yellow submarine type picture.  Only it's not yellow but cartoony.  Just fun to quilt on it.

I want to get back to my goofy self very soon.  Terry and I plan on going to a track weekend and I want to drive!  So if you don't see or hear from me for a while, I'm probably on the couch taking a snooze!
