Candace's box and book!

I went and visited with Candace down in Florida.  Had a blast!  So I'm showing you some things that she has made!  This is a box that she painted and melted crayons onto it and added other game pieces!  It's wonderful!  She's so creative!

She's in a group of 8 women called the Over the Edge.  The challenge each other every 6 weeks to make things.  Also have a work day and then 2 weeks later they have to make something from that work day.  This book is one of the challenges!

Had to have one main color and make a book.

I took pictures of every page!  It's a fabric book, and I think there was some paper in there to add to the creativity!

I love it!

Not every challenge is a book.  Each person makes the guide lines.

Candace and I did get to the show in West Palm Beach, and there was my quilt for the Quilter's Treasure Challenge.  They haven't been judged yet.  You had to create something about your favorite holiday.  Mine is the first day of spring.  Not officially a holiday, but it should be!
While I was there, the OTE group had a work day.  They did discharge dying.  You do things with Clorox on paper and fabric.  Very interesting what colors are under the black fabrics and other papers.  And yes I have a line up of things I want to do...that is now on the list.
So pick a day on the calendar and make it a play date for YOU!  Got plenty of ideas.  Get stuff lined up to work on and go for it!  You have to make it happen.  Invite people over to work if you want.  That group has rules...get there by 8:45, work starts at 9am.  Stop for lunch and finish up after that.  At their meetings, no talking about health, politics, religion, cats, family, or the guild.  That keeps them on the subject of quilting!
At Bee this week, which I have missed 4 Thursdays!, we were laughing so hard!  It was great to be back.  In all that laughing we came up with another challenge to work on.  Curses!  Sounds simple enough, but think of all the kinds of curses that there are...  witches do curses.  You could do a voodoo doll.  Swearing.  and my favorite...karma.  So we are starting up a curses challenge and it is due the last Thursday in October!
Keep sewing and creating!

Wow!  I got back from Florida about a week ago.  Went trough the mail, paid bills, did laundry, cleaned the house, got food, and started quilting again!  Saw Candace there and we went to the quilt show in WPB.  I loved the quilts from other countries and a challenge group "50 shades of gray".  Got to say that I was a little let down at this show.  There wer about 10 vendors who were selling things that had nothing to do with sewing.  Now that's ok, but I would rather have seen more quilt shops there or embellishments.  I have gone to this show for the last 4 years.   But it might be time to go to a different show.

Around the house, why do things all have to stop working about the same time?  Microwave smells like hot electrical problems when we have been using it.  So that is unplugged waiting for the guy to come on Saturday.  The Dish DVD player is messing up.  AT&T came and checked the phone line, and the problem is in the wiring in the we just finished the remodel and had more insulation blown into the attic space.  So who wants to mess all that up.  I guess I had needed that vacation!

So I have stopped taking in quilts for customers.  I am finishing up the last one.  Now I can pull out all the quilt tops I have and get to work!  I also have tons of ideas on what I want to design and play with.  (Excitement is building!). I can't believe how quickly January is going by.  Terry is home for 3 weeks, which is great!  Plenty to do around here!  Hopefully the bedroom furniture will show up soon.  It's made in Vermont, and they have had really bad shipping will take a while.  We have been sleeping in the basement for a year now.  I'm very used to that.  I can load up the washer and set it in delay start.  It's done when I get up, put it into the dyer and heat up the bathroom in the morning.  Sweet!  Makes me feel like I have a good start on the day.

Tomorrow is Thursday Bee!!!  Didn't meet during the holidays, and I was gone for two more weeks.  Feels like I have been off the planet!  Need to see my Bee Buddies and catch up on things.  So keep quilting!  Only 54 more days to spring!   Patty

Old and new!

Old Dresden Plate quilt.  I bought the top from an antique shop.  (there is another quilt under it that you can see the borders.)  The Dresden plate quilt is for sale.  Hand quilted by me.  It would probably fit a full size bed easier than a queen.  Beds were just smaller a long time ago.  So if you are interested, leave a comment.

This one I just finished quilting.  51" x 51".  It's for a charity that the local guild helps.  They give quilts to people going through chemo.  Keeps them warm while they sit there for hours.  I just have to put the binding on it.
Quilt shows will be starting up soon!  I try to get to a few every year.  Love seeing other peoples work.  And always want to see what is being sold at the vendors.  No real new tools that I just can't live without.

Close up of the stitching.
What's the latest and greatest tool that you have found that makes your sewing easier?  I got a great seam ripper out of turned wood for the handle.  It does make it easier to hold and rip away!
Terry also got some music for me!  When Mike was little there was Discovery Toy Company.  I got music that was so much fun to listen to in the car traveling.  But it's on cassette..and Terry found it on CD for me!!!  So cute!  I have to get the CD's into the car so I can laugh while driving.
I do have movies on while I'm in the sewing room.  The action ones keep me going!  The ones with music are great while designing.  I love the comedies while it's gray and rainy out.
So pull out some pretty colors and start a new quilt.  It's a new year!  Try a new technique and stop worrying about if it's going to work or not!  It will lead you to something else.  The trip is the fun part also!

Sorry for no pictures lately.  Been fighting off an infection.  Slept a lot on the stronger meds.  I have been working on a charity quilt.  Easy quilting.  So there will be something to show soon.  Showed several quilts to a couple last night lots of fun!  They did pick one out to take and give it a good home.  They (or rather she) picked out a very traditional piece.  It was made out of sugar sacks!

I have so many stacks of things to make.  Ideas overflowing.  And new techniques to try.  Going to be a great year!  Keep sewing and cut out something new and FUN!
