Norris Guild meeting

They are talented over there!!!  Love these striped quilts!

Simple designs can look more complicated when you are done.  It was really striking!

This is wool with lots of embroidery.

Took second place in the bed quilts.  The yellow is over powering in this picture.  The leaves were reproduction fabrics.

And a little boys quilt!  Just darling.
Terry should be home in a day or two, then things will get busy again.  So I might not be online for a while.
I found some clothing that I had cut out over a year ago, and it's been sitting there waiting to get sewn together.  So today I have worked on that, as well as color my roots, cleaned the bathroom, loaded up the truck with boxes of my magazines I want to save and took them over to my son's apartment.  He's letting me store things over there so we'll be able to remodel with less stuff around here!  I just don't have enough room in my sewing room to move everything back in to it!  So I have been trying to clear some things out and make way!  Take one step forward and two backwards!
More things to take to thrift stores.  I am clearing things out that I really don't think I will use anymore.  You have to let go some day.  Remember, we don't really own anything.  We are just the next caretakers of things.  Especially quilts!

Another quilt came in!

Would you believe there is a whole quilt in this box!?  She used one of those bags that sucks all the air out... I was amazed when I got it out!  I will show it to you once it is quilted!!

I pulled out my Wonky Logs quilt and been quilting alittle bit on that over the weekend.  About 2/3 done....

Grandmother's Flower Garden is coming along nicely.  Out to an edge!

Been clearing out the 2nd sewing room.  Some went over to my son's apartment for storage while we are going to remodel the bedrooms.  I do have a lot of stuff, but I love it all!  Not willing to give up any fabrics.  Though I have tossed some magazines.  Actually, I take them to doctor's waiting rooms.  Tired of fishing and golf magazines.  So I have been taking them into the hospital and they put them around.

This is my Hawaiian one that I did a while ago.  Dogwood flowers, I got  a third place on it, or a second.  I don't remember which.  I really loved doing this one!  Can you see the flowers quilted in around the border?  Thought it added a little something extra to the piece.
I got one out of three into the Open Art show in Oak Ridge.  Not bad.  Was surprised at which one they took.  But you never know!  So I have to go pick up the other 2 over the weekend.  The one that got in was "the 4th Day of the Universe".  I love that one.!  But I do love all my quilts!!!
Plan to be surprised!!!
It's more fun that way.

Beautiful weekend!

Ok, no pictures!  Sorry about that.... I quilted on the flower garden one and my wonky logs.  I actually cleaned on Saturday.  We all make mistakes.  I was going to quilt all day and somethings just didn't look good, so you get started and then you don't know when to stop!  But it looks good around here now.

Sunny days do that to me.  I just want to have things shine inside the house too.  And when the sun shines in, you can see more dust.  Need I say more?

Then today I slept late and it was wonderful.  Just took my time getting into the sewing room.  Worked on the quilt in the frame and did 2 Italian lessons.  I'm doing ok on that.  Terry's learning German and I'm doing the Italian.  But then we can't practice talking to each other!  After lunch I worked on my piece.  I don't seem to get much time to work on my things anymore!  I also spent 2 hours trying on my clothes to see what (still)fits and what doesn't.  I hate trying on clothes.  They are all over the bed right now.  So I guess I'm not done fooling around with them.  I organize my clothes about once every 10 years....and it's that year now.  Geeze, I have some pretty out of date things, but they are comfy and I love them.  Like the oldest pair of shoes that you just don't want to get rid of.  That's my whole woredrobe.  (spelling is not right, but neither are my clothes.)

I probably should have worked on the garden while the weather was so nice.  Nay.  Just something else to leave for a while longer.  Everything is growing so much this summer.  I kind of hate to trim it back!  And I don't want to give up time in the sewing room.

It'll be another busy week coming up.  Just lots of things on the "to do" lists.  At least I feel like I'm sort of keeping up. Norris' guild meeting is Wednesday and they want to have a silent auction.  So I have to dig a few things out for that!

Keep a quilting!  You can never do too much of that!  Patty

Things That are fun!

Ok, I finally found a knight in armor.  Not too shiny, but he is great!  Saturday, I spent time with a very good friend of mine, and we love to go through antique shops and thrift stores.  You never know what might show up!

My wonderful Hubby gave me flowers after he left for work!  Aren't they gorgeous!!!

The smell is so wonderful!  These were a surprise, and I love them!!!

Last night at the Ritzy Thimbles guild meeting was the challenge, "Things that go Together."  This was viewers choice, first place. " Heart and Home."

This was mine the spools, Fabric, Friends, and Fun", and the other was Gale Ware, "Time and Timepieces."

This was 3rd place.. "Paint and Paint brushes."

And second place, "Squares and Circles go for Walkabout".  There were 15 that came in!  I loved them all!!!
Go to to see all of them.  Might take a day or two for them to get posted, but they are good about getting each meetings quilts up there.

Rolling Pin Covers. Why not?!!!

Ever make something just to be different?  I did!  Cover those rolling pins to protect them in the drawers.  I wrote recipes in each one.

Not sure you can read it so I'll type it at the end of the pictures.

And this is what they look like all rolled up.
The bright colored one has a 2 minute fudge recipe written in it.   The pastel cover has this written in it.
What's  Cooking?
~Happy Stew~
One pound of Laughs.
Two cloves of giggles.
Three teaspoons of Snickers.
Whisk with Glee.
Add Smiles and Cheers.
Blend with Understanding.
Bake with Love.
Sprinkle with Kisses.
Serve Warm with Hugs.
Hold Hands and Enjoy!
I made this up and had fun thinking of words and who they could fit into a recipe.  So if you want to copy this, you may.  Just use it for fun and not for profit.
I have the covers here for sale.  I was asking $24.95.  They are quilted and the recipe is hand written.  The fudge recipe is oh-so gooooood!!!  You make it in the microwave in 2 minutes with 4 ingredients.

Did add binding....

I wasn't going to put on binding, but then thought it would add more color and frame it in.

Put the casing on, and a label.

Here's the G.Flower Garden quilt.  You can see the quilting on the backing there.  Been busy on this one.

Another view point, but you can see the flowers puff up more when quilted.

This is my sewing table... no room to sew.  I found my snake that swallowed the tomato pin cushion.  I know....I'm nuts.  But these things are fun to make!

AND, Terry and I stained the deck.  We finally had 2 days with very little we pressure washed it one afternoon, then stained it the next day.  Worn out!  And it's been raining on and off ever since.
Car has visited the shop and parts have been ordered.  So another stop there this week.  Went to pick out eye glasses....and I don't care what you say, that's 1 1/2 hours to go through all that.  Getting pretty blue frames!  Add in all the usual laundry, dinners, pizza runs, dinner across the street with friends, and Saturday with my friend in Maryville, and the whole week and gone by.
Terry just left today to head back to work.  We thought he might get to stay home for the next 2 weeks before our vacation..... nope.   So I have plenty of things to do.  Including trying to pack.  It takes me weeks.  I put out everything I think I would want, which is always toooooooo much.  Then I start to thin it out.  I always forget things so I do add back to the pile.  And then you only use half of what you bring anyways.
Monday night is the guild's meeting in Oak Ridge and the challenge pieces will be coming in.  I'm in charge of this, so I have a ton of things to bring down there!!!  Have to use the truck.    I should have my camera there.... if not, I'll see what I can do about pictures.  Should be on the site for the Ritzy Thimbles Quilt Guild.
Have fun with friends, and make new ones!
Enjoy your fabrics!

Borders are on!!!

Finally!  I had to applique each side on by hand.  Time consuming... 2 hours each side.

It looks good!  Right now the size is 92" x 100".  It may not end up being that size.  I have  left about 1 to 2" leeway to square it up later.

So the batting is in the dryer getting fluffed up and the backing will have to be pieced.  Anyway you look at it, fabric is only 42" wide.  So that's about 84 wide if you use 2 lengths... so I need at least 10" one direction, or 18" if I go the other way.... so I have to see what I have for fabric lengths and put the extra strip down the middle.  Sometimes it takes a day just to get everything ready to be basted!
Still taking things to thrift stores and other places.  Slowly clearing things out of the storage room and my "climate controlled quilt storage room" other words, Mike's old bedroom.  It is so full of stuff!!!  And if that is going into the storage room, then you have to get rid of some stuff down there!
I also painted more of the wall in my little room downstairs.  Remember the room that is painted like I'm on a castle balcony?  Finally just decided to open the paint and do some sponging on the tree for the leaves, and on the fields to make the dividers and grasses.  Pictures tomorrow!  May get some more done on the little castle in the background....
Keep at things and sooner or later, you will see progress!

Top almost done.

Ok, you can see where I added on the rows of the extra florets with the muslin hexes.  I had to cut out all the muslin pieces...and stitch them all into place!

It hangs all the way to the floor....

and the length is pretty good too!  I have to add a strip of muslin on each side to make the edges straight.  So after I iron this (tomorrow) I will cut the strips, baste them in place, then turn the edges under on each hexagram and get those borders on.  Then piece the backing and baste.  Hopefully, I'll get it in the frame in an other week.
I love the fabrics in this!  Just wonderful little prints.  I really feel that every quilt top should get finished.... so my work will never be over.  I have at least 4 more quilts in here now and about 5 more that I expect to be coming in.  So if you don't hear from me at times, then I'm at the frame just having a blast!
Terry's home and we are getting so much done.  He's working on the trailer now.  Not sure why a fairly new trailer needs to have the wheels lubed...but he wants to do this.  Ok... last night he left the keys in the the ignition...and it wasn't running, but the key was turned to on.  WHAT?  The battery was so dead.  Just strange that he did that!!!!  We are getting old.  Anyways, he's getting the battery recharged.  I'm going to work on my own projects this weekend.
Art Center is going to have the open art show soon.  So I should take a look at what I can put in there.  Entry fee is $45 for up to 3 pieces.... kind of on the high side, but I don't seem to be entering many shows this year.
Stay Calm

Ok, 4 more to add on to the quilt.  I can't tell you how many hundreds of hexes it took to work on this quilt!  It will be a big queen sized one.

I did fool around with this one block and the 4 corner ones.  I'll quilt this up for something to do....

NOTHING IN THE FRAME!!!  I thought I would have the grandmother's flower garden done by now.  So my frame has been empty for a couple of weeks.  Very disturbing to me!

But I have been emptying out the furniture from this bedroom.  Going to remodel in a couple of months.  So lots gone from there!

And from here!  Used to be 26 boxes of patterns!  And in the garage there used to be 26 boxes of books!  I only have about 3 of each left for one more guild meeting.  So 46 boxes of stuff was gone in just over 2 weeks!  Whew.
Terry is home so things pick up a pace around here.  That's ok.  I just feel like I have been running the last 2 weeks with all those boxes.  Now I have to clear out the "2nd" sewing room...which is storage of quilts, batting, and extra stuff....lots of extras.  All part of the remodel.... so it has to get cleared out.  No pictures.  I'm just not going to embarrass myself with that!
Keep quilting.  I do.  Got way too many ideas that I want to get done around here!

Keep quilting!

I have appliqued the top and it's basted!  Time to get to the quilting!!!

  Not much more to say!
Been quilting like crazy on the Grandmother's flower Garden all week and now I'm working on mine.  Just have some fun for a couple of days!  What are you working on?
I did get prescription sunglasses!  Love those!  Should have done that years ago.
Guild meeting next Tuesday and I'll be bring the boxes and boxes of patterns and books to give away!  So show up and take a bunch home....
